How many times have you been at the receiving end of this old chestnut, trotted out by so many 'gatekeepers'?
How many times have you been at the receiving end of this old chestnut, trotted out by so many 'gatekeepers'?
Call
me a cynic if you will but I don't believe it. Not a word of it.
It’s
the simple things like the message you left a few days ago. An unanswered
email. The polite message you left on the voicemail. The follow-up to that
query you had with the bank. The quote you’re expecting from the mechanic. The
rates query with the Council. All entreaties met with ‘laissez faire’, contempt
for courtesy and stony silence.
It’s
just bad manners and it’s everywhere. Supermarket checkout clerks. Council
officials. Government bureaucrats. Service providers. Banks. Friends. Family.
How
long is one is expected to wait before the limits of politeness, grace and good
manners have been stretched?
The
only weapons you have in your arsenal are to pester them, bug them, make a
nuisance of yourself, insist, call back, send emails, text messages and refuse
to give up. Of course one should always do it politely, with grace, and always a
show of good manners.
Failing
to do this will simply make you another statistic in a miasma of incompetence,
bad service, lack of good manners and common courtesy from others.
I
for one will not stand for it.
I'm off to make a nuisance of myself.
